As part of Black History Month, we did an event at the Slavery Museum on Saturday 22nd October with Stef Bradley. This event involved showing of archive footage, and a short talk from Helen Smart from the Library Archive, as well as a young people’s workshop afterward.
We received some positive feedback from the event:
‘For the Sankofa project which is looking to explore Liverpool’s Black history, having Sandi and Tim from Rewind Fast forward give a talk was a fantastic opportunity. Sandi was really open about her life and the importance of documenting her own story and Tim spoke honestly about the practical task of getting to grips with a mammoth collection of archive material.’
Mitty Ramagavigan (Sankofa Project curator)
‘It was fantastic to be able to display a selection of photographs from Rewind Fast Forward in the Anthony Walker Education Centre. A number of our visitors recognised people that they knew in the photographs and it was a great to hear them sharing their own stories about the city in response to Sandi’s photographs. It’s vital that we cherish and share this important local history.’
